Preparing a board with hand planes
Boards that have been freshly milled on the jointer and thicknesser are not really ready for use in fine furniture making. This video shows how to take a freshly milled board and prepare it for use in fine furniture using a hand plane.
I will demonstrate how to:
- Remove milling marks from the face side
- Hollow the length and width of the face side
- Check for wind (twist in other words)
- Make the face edge perpendicular to the face edge
Products used in this video:
- Veritas Low Angle Jack plane
- Chris Vesper brass tri-square
- Long straight edge
- Short straight edge
- Winding sticks
