FreeCAD is an open source 3D parametric design software system that can be used for designing products such as furniture, automotive parts, buildings, etc.
FreeCAD uses the concept of workbenches that provide task specific functions. For example, the Arch workbench allows you to design buildings, the TechDraw workbench allows you to create technical drawings, and the Part Design workbench allows you to design parts. Workbenches can be used together in your workflow. You can use the Part Design workbench to create a part, and then you can use the Tech Draw workbench to create technical drawings so the part can be manufactured. We use FreeCAD to design furniture and other items.
